About
Our Story
Home Grown Instruments, founded by Zach Farley, is a unique musical instrument crafting business based in the heart of Patagonia, Arizona. Zach, a lifelong resident of Patagonia, embodies the essence of “home grown” through his deep connection to the community and his craft. His journey began at High Spirits Flutes, where he honed his skills as one of the world’s finest flute tuners. Inspired by a gourd flute at a Native American music festival in Phoenix, Zach started crafting his own instruments, leading to the creation of Home Grown Instruments.
What started with gourd flutes has grown into an impressive array of handcrafted instruments, including guitars, ukuleles, dulcimers, drums, shakers, and even a saxophone, made from organic and repurposed materials like bamboo, agave, sunflower, yucca, PVC pipe, and cigar boxes. Each instrument is a testament to Zach’s creativity and dedication to transforming everyday materials into objects of beauty and sound. His work has been recognized by KUAZ TV, featuring in a 2017 episode of Arizona Illustrated, showcasing his ability to create extraordinary instruments from ordinary materials.
